If you have yet to learn about the green smoothie, you're in for a big treat. The thought of leafy-green vegetables is unappetizing to many people and at the same time we are told how important it is to eat them. Greens help to ward off cancer and many diseases as well as detoxifying our systems. The problem is, they seem a chore to eat. Raw-food author, educator and chef, Victoria Boutenko, thought the same thing. She knew her family needed to eat more greens but was less than thrilled at the thought of it. She decided to add fresh leafy-green vegetables to her smoothies. The taste was delightful and her kids enjoyed them too...and so, the green smoothie was born.

Simply put, a green smoothie is a fruit smoothie with leafy greens added to it. An example of a green smoothie is this:

1 apple

1 banana

1 handful strawberries

4 leaves kale

2 handfuls spinach

Place ingredients in blender and fill with water. Blend until smooth. Enjoy!

It's really that simple.
